Greenbelt Riding Association for the DisabledLelia, 2015

“I have enjoyed the challenge, the risk-taking, the learning, and, above all, the opportunity to share my sport – riding horses – with so many others.”   – Lelia Sponsel, TROtt Founder

Envisioned by a small group of riders, TROtt, formerly GRAD (Greenbelt Riding Association for the Disabled), was established in 1975. Under the supervision of Lelia Sponsel, GRAD provided therapeutic horseback riding for persons with disabilities in the local Ottawa region. Lelia’s involvement with GRAD (TROtt) has ranged from volunteer; to instructor; to President, and more.

In 1982, TROtt moved to Equidae Stables (Greely, ON) owned by Gordon and Nancy Reid. The Reids are enthusiastic and fundamental supporters of the therapeutic riding program.

Celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2015, TROtt continues to grow with the enduring help of our many donors, sponsors, and volunteers.
